Purpose and Intent
The GTIE GAP Fund Program is seeking organizations to promote commercialization under the GTIE GAP Fund Program.
This program is a part of the “Deep Tech Startup International Startup Ecosystem Co-creation Program”, a project commissioned by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (hereinafter referred to as “JST”). This program is implemented with the budget allocated by the “Startup Ecosystem Co-creation Program for the International Development of Deep Tech Startups” (hereinafter referred to as the “Program”), a project of the New Industry Creation Fund for University Startups (hereinafter referred to as the “Fund”) commissioned by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). The purpose of this program is to support the commercialization of outstanding technology seeds from universities and the development of entrepreneurial human resources, and to build a system that will enable the sustainable creation of startups with a large social impact that will lead to social reforms and solutions to social issues after Corona. The program also includes the “Entrepreneurship Support Program” and the “Entrepreneurial Activity Support Program. In addition, the “Entrepreneurship Support Program” provides support to universities participating in the Greater Tokyo Innovation Ecosystem (GTIE) (hereinafter referred to as “GTIE”). The GTIE GAP Fund Program provides support to universities participating in the Greater Tokyo Innovation Ecosystem (GTIE) platform.
The GTIE GAP Fund Program provides support for research and development projects for researchers belonging to GTIE’s lead and collaborating institutions in order to create university-launched ventures that aim for the global market based on innovative technology seeds from universities participating in the platform and university-launched ventures with a high social impact that will also contribute to achieving the SDGs. We will support research and development projects. The institutions selected in this call for proposals will support the researchers selected for the GTIE GAP Fund in their commercialization-oriented R&D activities as mentors, with the aim of helping them start their own businesses or obtain the next stage of R&D funding (JST START, etc.).

Applications are open to institutions that meet all of the following criteria
( 1 ) Institutions with a track record of supporting deep-tech startups, including those in the pre-stage of business startups.
( 2 ) Have the ability to invest in seed-stage startups.
3)Ability to assign at least two individuals with a track record of supporting startups as their staff members.
4)An institution with a legal entity in Japan
( 5 ) Institutions that are not subject to suspension of subsidies or suspension of nomination for contracts.
( 6 ) Institutions that have a juridical personality and are able to contract with the GTIE lead institution university.

Pre-briefing session will be held.

9. Screening
Screening will be conducted in a closed-door written review process. Applicants may be asked to answer questions about the screening documents and submit additional materials.
10. Notification of Selection Results
Applicants will be notified of the selection results by e-mail.
First round of results notification: February 9, 2024 (Friday)
Second round result notification: End of February, 2024
After the 3rd round, notification will be made by the end of the month after the monthly deadline.
