GTIE SEP 2024 Meetup (1st)!
The GTIE SEP (Student Entrepreneurship Program), an entrepreneurship education program for students of GTIE participating universities, held its first meetup at the Tokyo Innovation base, an innovation base of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Thirty students participated in the event.
Takaaki Umada, Director of FoundX at the University of Tokyo, gave a keynote speech on the theme of “Hypothetical Thinking and Hypothetical Action. In a highly uncertain society, it is very difficult to have sufficient or completely necessary information. He conveyed the importance of making it a habit or practicing verification activities while actually moving forward with a hypothesis under incomplete information, based on the concept of “hypothetical action.
In the latter half of the session, Mr. Nobuhiko Hihara, Associate Professor at Waseda University’s Graduate School of Business Administration (WBS), conducted the “Effectuation Experience” Workshop. In effectuation, which is a logic that systematizes the thinking and behavior patterns common to outstanding entrepreneurs, participants create their future by controlling their own assets rather than predicting an uncertain future. In the workshop, participants practiced sharing their identities with collaborators through communication with each other.
In addition, GTIE universities introduced their entrepreneurship education programs through Lightning Talks and exhibits. The seven universities exhibited were the University of Tokyo, Waseda University, University of Tsukuba, Chiba University, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanagawa University of Health and Welfare, and Shibaura Institute of Technology. Many students visited the exhibition and exchanged opinions with university officials.
The get-together after the event was also very lively, and participating students enjoyed networking across universities.
