GTIE SEP 2025 University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Training Call for Participants! This step will create a better future. Let's step out on the world stage!

The Greater Tokyo Innovation Ecosystem (GTIE) is a platform for 18 universities and research institutions in the Tokyo metropolitan area that aims to nurture entrepreneurial talent and develop university-launched startups that will change the world. We are now accepting applications from all over Japan for students (undergraduate and graduate students) to participate in the entrepreneurship education program “GTIE Student Entrepreneurship Program 2025” (GTIE SEP2025).

GTIE will hold the “GTIE x UCSD Training Program” for students majoring in life sciences who are interested in entrepreneurship overseas and overseas ecosystems.
The training will include mentoring and workshops by the Institute for the Global Entrepreneur (IGE) at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), which has a proven track record of supporting numerous entrepreneurs, as well as a hands-on experience of San Diego’s vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and business ecosystem. The goal of the program is to help participants acquire the business knowledge and skills necessary for startups, and to evaluate and develop their technology ideas.
Students interested in social implementation of life sciences and the ecosystem overseas are encouraged to apply. Let’s experience the world together with your peers from all over Japan.

-Targets for application
(1) Students (undergraduate and graduate students*) affiliated with a university participating in GTIE.
(2) Applicants must belong to or major in a life science-related department (**) and have a business idea based on university research or IP.
(3) Even if (2) is not applicable, the applicant must have a strong interest in overseas ecosystems and entrepreneurship education.
(4) Applicants must be able to participate in the entire training program in San Diego, California, U.S.A. (Applicants must be able to obtain a visa to stay in the U.S.A.). (Applicants must be able to obtain a visa to stay in the U.S.)
(5) Be willing and able to communicate in English.
(6) Have no problems communicating in Japanese.

*This training program is open to students who belong to the following 9 PF participating universities.
The 13 universities participating in GTIE.

** Science (biological sciences), engineering, agriculture, marine and fishery sciences, medicine, pharmacy, liberal arts, etc.

-Cost Free
There is no fee for participation in this program, training fees, and travel expenses (travel, accommodation, etc.). However, participants are responsible for their own communication and some domestic transportation expenses.

Dennis Abremski is the Executive Director of the UC San Diego Institute for the Global Entrepreneur (IGE). The Institute is a collaboration between the Jacobs School of Engineering and the Rady School of Management, dedicated to training global technology leaders and translating university discoveries to the world. The Institute for the Global Entrepreneur (IGE) is a joint initiative of the Jacobs School of Engineering and the Reddy Graduate School of Business at UCSD. IGE was jointly established by the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego and the Reddy Graduate School of Management, with the aim of stimulating the economy and contributing to society through the implementation of innovative technologies in society by providing entrepreneurial education to engineers.
