Startup Academia Meetup Vol.4

It was launched by four universities participating in the Startup Ecosystem Tokyo Consortium (Tokyo Institute of Technology, Keio University, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and the University of Tokyo), and together with partner institutions in the consortium and other platforms, aims to foster the development of a global university-based startup ecosystem in the Tokyo and other regions. The “Innovation Design Platform (IdP)” aims to foster and nurture a global university startup ecosystem in Tokyo and other regions. We are holding a meetup study session to strengthen the network of information sharing among the parties involved in the IdP ecosystem and to create an environment in which university-launched ventures can be born. Of course, we welcome those who are not involved in IdP to participate in order to foster the ecosystem.

For the 4th meeting, we have invited Mr. Motoyuki Arai, CEO of Synspective, Inc. to speak on the topic of “Space Startups from Japan (tentative) as discussed by Mr. Motoyuki Arai, CEO.

Synspective Inc. is a space startup company founded in 2018 and was established to apply the small SAR satellite development project in the national project “Innovative R&D Promotion Program (ImPACT)” sponsored by the Cabinet Office, aiming at social implementation. The cumulative amount of funding raised is more than 10 billion yen.

Synspective develops and operates its own small SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellites and provides satellite data solutions.

Including the first satellite that has already started operations, the second satellite, StriX-β, and the demonstration commercial vehicle, StriX-1, are scheduled to be launched this year, 2022, and a total of six satellites will be launched into orbit by the end of 2023, aiming to build a constellation of 30 satellites by the late 2020s.

The constellation of 30 satellites in low orbit will make it possible to observe any disaster in any part of the world within two hours.

This is a very valuable opportunity for university-launched ventures, academic entrepreneurs, VCs, people in the private sector who are implementing or envisioning collaboration with university-launched ventures, and CVCs, please join us.
